Ceasefire Is Not Enough: Gaza Needs Access for Recovery

Humanitarian access, safety, and community-led recovery must be prioritised now.

Today’s announcement of a ceasefire in Gaza offers a rare and fragile moment of relief for families who have endured months of devastating violence, displacement, and unimaginable loss. It is a moment filled with hope that the bombing will finally stop, and with heartbreak for the thousands of lives already taken and the communities shattered beyond recognition.

We welcome this ceasefire and call on all parties to honour it fully, protect civilians, and guarantee unhindered humanitarian access. Stopping the bombing alone will not end survivors’ suffering. Displacement is widespread, famine is still spreading, and essential infrastructure has been destroyed. Humanitarian organisations must have full and unrestricted access to bring in food, medicine, shelter materials, and the vital supplies that Gaza has been deprived of for two years. A ceasefire must not become a temporary pause before the violence resumes. It should mark the beginning of meaningful steps toward safety, dignity, and long-term recovery for the people of Gaza.

Throughout the crisis, GlocalShift and our partners have remained on the ground, responding to urgent needs and supporting families wherever possible. Our collective work has included providing essential food, clean water, hygiene supplies, and infant essentials to displaced families. We have supported medical centres with equipment, medicines, and emergency supplies while also helping restore damaged water wells, sanitation systems, and critical infrastructure.

This ceasefire must hold. It must create space for healing, rebuilding, and justice. The people of Gaza deserve more than a temporary reprieve; they deserve a future where safety and dignity are not privileges but rights. GlocalShift will continue to respond, rebuild, and advocate, guided always by the strength and resilience of Gaza’s communities.
